Keynote speaker: Dr. Kuchera

What is it and who is leading the training?

Naloxone (Narcan) is an injectable medication that is used to treat narcotic overdose in emergency situations.

Keynote speaker Dr. Kuchera, MD, FASAM will be training on when naloxone should be administered, the proper use of naloxone, why it is important for family members, government officials, and treatment professionals to be educated on naloxone, and why they should have naloxone available in an emergency situation. This session and training is open to anyone.  Attendees typically include law enforcement and government officials, mothers, fathers and all family members of those affected by addiction, professionals in the field including counselors, therapists, sober living owners, treatment center managers or owners, nurses, and social workers.

Dr. Jay Kuchera, MD, FASAM is a graduate of the University of Florida School of Medicine. He served his internship at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital and is board certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Management, and Addiction Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Academy of Pain Management.

Death from opioid overdose continues to be a leading public health concern. Despite recent crack-downs on prescribing, prescription overdose injuries increased in 2014 to an all-time high. Heroin and street fentanyl have greatly added to overdose deaths.  Naloxone is a life-saving medication recommended by national policy for community use by both public and law-enforcement professionals. This is a must-see for families, friends, law-enforcement and addiction treatment professionals.
